Entertaining Food that can't be missed!

If you are looking for a delicious meal with fun combined at a very reasonable price I have found the place. Go Jo Japanese Steak House located in the Westport area is my recommendation. Over the weekend we dined there and everything was superb. It has been ages since I had been there and it was time to go back. We called ahead for reservations which I would recommend. This place can get packed quickly and if you have a reservation your wait time will be the minimum. Our reservation was at 6:30pm and we were seated within fifteen minutes of that time.

During our wait we had a drink at the bar. I was immediately impressed with the cocktail prices. Their specialty drinks were no more than $5. I don’t know of many places where their specialty cocktails are less than $7-8 per drink. These drinks were of good size and tasted amazing. Once our table was ready we were seated. We were seated with another party of four for eight in total at our very own table/grill. The purpose of most Japanese Steak houses is to make the food right in front of you. This adds to the entertainment factor and makes for a unique dining experience.

The food was very reasonably priced. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and my husband tried the steak and crab. Not only do you get an entrée but you get a full course. It starts with very flavorful soup that is only the beginning to a scrumptious meal. Following the soup was the salad which was very fresh and served with an original ginger dressing. Up next is the rice which was cooked to perfection. As you are finishing up the salad and rice the cook brings out an appetizer of shrimp for all parties. The fun part begins. As he cooks all the food in front of you it is amazing. Eventually setting the grill on fire with flames rising several feet high, which leave you wondering if your eyebrows were singed off. It is all part of the fun.

As the cook is serving the shrimps, you are encouraged you to catch one. Everyone passed this task except for me. I am not very coordinated and failed twice. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and a perfect snack until the main course. Finally it was time for our dinner. My chicken teriyaki was served with a side of bean sprouts and veggies. All were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The chicken was very flavorful and made for a very filling meal. After dinner was finished we were served a little dish of sherbet ice cream to make for a perfect meal. All this for under $30!!

Where else can you dine that is relatively inexpensive and have a great evening? The only downside is that it is a little rushed. When you are served your sherbet it comes with your check. As GoJos is very busy they do seem to rush you a bit so they can get the table ready for the next group. Still loads of fun and I know I will be back.

Some great BBQ in an Irish pub...odd I know!

Sunday afternoon I stopped in to try out an Irish pub & grill. Not expecting much as it is a standard bar I was surprised by the BBQ food they offered. On Sundays they have specials featuring 16 oz beers for only $1.25 and 1/2 price appetizers. We selected a few appetizers to split. From our choices the best was the BBQ burnt ends. The sauce was delicious and the meat was very tender. The jalapeno poppers were good, but the quesadillas were pretty bland. Service was average, but it took a good 30 minutes to get appetizers. I would hate to see how long it would take to get an entrée! This location offers a pool table, video games, outdoor patio seating and live music on Fridays & Saturdays. Next time I would not miss out on some great BBQ…I would stick with that as the rest is pretty much what you come to expect, but the BBQ was mouthwatering.

After a recent late night out with friends I was introduced to some great midnight grub. We went to Pancho’s. Apparently they work all hours, cause it was 3 am when we pulled into their drive-thru. My friend ordered us all carne asada burritos. They were the best burritos I have had on the road. The steak was meaty and flavorful. The burrito was filled with cheese and came with salsa and guacamole and was delicious. Perfect to tide over any late night hunger pains. Plus it won’t hit the wallet that hard. We all got burritos for under $15!! Now that is a steal. Being it was pretty late we did not dine in, so I am not sure how clean or up to date the dining area is. The outside gives the illusion it might be a little worn out. Design aside food was great, service was quick and I’ll be back!

Looking for authentic cuisine straight from the streets of Mexico? The search is over when you reach the Westport area. I was down in the heart of Westport this weekend for a free concert and before heading to it I needed some dinner. We saw a quaint Mexican restaurant across the street from the Beaumont Club. Boy was I glad we spotted this place and decided to eat there. The special of the evening was a Junior Burrito sided with chips & salsa, with a fountain drink for only $7!! We ordered that and some street tacos (Authentic in Mexico) and it was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The tacos were Carne Asada and were amazing. Topped with fresh cilantro and lime and could not have been more zesty to the mouth.

The ambiance of this small joint was nothing spectacular, but the cuisine made up for it in every way. We dined on the patio and were able to see the entire concert across the street at the Beaumont. Only downside is that Cancun does not sell any alcohol beverages. Upside for locals is that they do deliver! I have now found my new favorite Mexican dining eatery and will be going back soon.
The burger joint sits inside a flea market shop and will have you salivating for more. I visited the burger joint on Saturday after 8pm and the bar & grill was mildly busy at this time. I ordered the flea market burger with cheese and grilled onions with an order of cheese fries. We took a seat at the bar ordered a couple drinks and awaited our name to be called when our order was ready. Once called we dressed our burgers up with all the goodies offered. My burger was cooked just right and was very delicious. The taste is still one of the best burgers I have ever had. The cheese fries were amazing, curled fries and lots of cheese. I have not been to the Flea Market in three years since my most recent visit, and I find myself wondering why I don’t visit more often. This is an excellent burger joint in the Kansas City area and you definitely have to eat here. They also have live bands on Friday nights, along with karaoke Saturday evenings. Make sure to have cash on you when you visit as they do not accept any plastic, but no worries there is an ATM located inside. Click here for a buy one – get one free coupon for this restaurant. Expires Jan. 31, 2009
