Cruise is refreshing and Diaz is not. But that is not enough to ruin the entire film!

Knight and Day is a game of cat and mouse starring two of Hollywood’s finest. Cameron Diaz is June Havens an ordinary girl making her way home to enjoy her sister’s wedding. She crosses paths with Roy Miller, portrayed by Tom Cruise, who puts her in a rather dangerous situation that starts of with a plane crash. Roy is a secret agent who apparently has gone rogue due to a set up we presume. In an attempt to protect June he takes her home and asks her for her safety that she forgets she ever met him.

Pretty predictable that June does none of these things and in fact gets herself further into danger. As Roy must come to her rescue repeatedly June begins to feel that Roy is bringing all the peril in her direction. Insisting that they must stay together for her survival June lets her guard down and starts to trust Roy. The pair finds themselves in many life threatening operations. As June begins to believe in Roy and his mission she soon has doubts that could cause serious repercussions.

Tom Cruise comes back in a big way. His performance as the charming and comical Roy Miller was refreshing! Sad to say I don’t feel the same about his co-star Cameron Diaz. She played the usual Cameron part, but as Cruise’s counterpart her performance could not tread water. With several fight sequences and action scenes this film will visually keep your attention. The storyline is outlandish and predictable at times but overall amusing. Knight and Day does not knock is out of the park, but it’s attempt is not in vain.

My Bloody Valentine 3D, Valkyrie, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

This week we have a variety pack. You can choose from “Mall Cop” Kevin James, Horror slash film “My Bloody Valentine 3D” or World War II film “Valkyrie”.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop: A single, suburban dad tries to make ends meet as a security officer at a New Jersey mall. It’s a job he takes very seriously, though no one else does. When Santa’s helpers at the mall stage a coup, shutting down the megaplex and taking hostages (Paul’s daughter and sweetheart among them), Jersey’s most formidable mall cop will have to become a real cop to save the day.

Valkyrie: Based on the incredible true story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise) and his ingenious assassination plot targeting Adolph Hitler, this engrossing thriller reenacts the daring operation to eliminate one of the most evil tyrants the world has ever known.

My Bloody Valentine 3D: Ten years ago, a tragedy changed the town of Harmony forever. Tom Hanniger, an inexperienced coal miner, caused an accident in the tunnels that trapped and killed five men and sent the only survivor, Harry Warden, into a permanent coma. But Harry Warden wanted revenge. Exactly one year later, on Valentine’s Day, he woke up…and brutally murdered twenty-two people with a pickaxe before being killed.

Ten years later, Tom Hanniger returns to Harmony on Valentine’s Day, still haunted by the deaths he caused. Struggling to make amends with his past, he grapples with unresolved feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Sarah, who is now married to his best friend, Axel, the town sheriff. But tonight, after years of peace, something from Harmony’s dark past has returned. Wearing a miner’s mask and armed with a pickaxe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. And as his footsteps come ever closer, Tom, Sarah and Axel realize in terror that it just might be Harry Warden who’s come back to claim them…

Tropic Thunder turns out to be a very funny film with an immensely talented cast that will be the topic of any water cooler conversation.

“Tropic Thunder” will have you rolling with laughter. From start to finish you can not miss a second of this action/comedy. Starring in “Tropic Thunder” is Ben Stiller as Tugg Speedman, an action film star who is struggling to revive his stardom. Jack Black stars as Jeff Portnoy, a comedian who plays all of his own roles and is suffering from a heroin addiction. Robert Downey, Jr stars as Kirk Lazarus, a mega movie star who is trying to find himself. The three needy actors find themselves stranded after a few freak accidents occur and they come to the realization that they are no longer acting, but becoming the soldiers they portray. Tugg pushes forward with the filming insisting there were no accidents, that it was all a part of the production. The other actors do not agree it was part of the production so they decide to part ways and head back to the actual filming location.

The actors soon learn that this will not be an easy trek back. While Tugg is on his own, he is soon captured by deadly drug lords who quickly realize the celebrity that he is and insist on holding him for ransom. The fellow actors learn of his abduction when they come across a guarded camp site with him in it and decide they must try to save him. Once they put their plan into action, expect some of the best comedy scenes. Just imagine Robert Downey Jr as a rice farmer and Jack Black in his underwear riding a cow. It does not get much better than that. After the battle ensues, they go to rescue Tugg who wants to stay at the camp insisting he must stay with his “son”, a young friend he has made while imprisoned. With not much time left to escape will the actors survive to film another day or become prisoners? Definitely an ending you don’t want to miss.

Tropic Thunder is a hysterical hoot. Jack Black, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr brought these characters to life and had some of the best comic material I have seen. They were not afraid to step outside their comfort zone and try something new. In this film it really paid off. You will want to make sure to arrive early to catch the spoof movie trailers. One in particular was my favorite and will be well worth the ticket price paid. Another shining moment in the film is Tom Cruise who portrays media mogul Les Grossman; you would never know it was him if not for the baby blue eyes. His best performance I have ever seen. Make sure to stick around for final credits as Tom Cruise offers his best hip hop dancing to “Apple Bottom Jeans.” Tropic Thunder turns out to be a very funny film with an immensely talented cast that will be the topic of any water cooler conversation. Be sure not to miss out on it.
