Not as good in 2010.

On the Boulevard you can always find a wide array of Mexican restaurants on the west side. The one that has always held my admiration is Manny’s. I have had many dinners at Manny’s but this is the first for 2010. This dining experience was not as superb as the previous visits. Dinner at Manny’s on a Saturday is always a busy experience. We arrived a little after 6pm and were quickly seated. Our party of seven was seated in the upstairs area of the renovated restaurant.

Our drink order was taken as soon as we were seated and our server was very polite. We did have a few drinks forgotten, but that was quickly corrected. After our food was ordered it was swiftly delivered. I found that our refills of chips, salsa and refreshments were not kept up on. For such a small area you would think we would have a little more service than experienced.

My next complaint would be the food. Our orders were completely mixed up and took forever to figure out. The chips were overcooked and burnt. The pork was dried out and did not have enough red sauce. The rice was excellent as always. Despite my disappointment in the food I know I will be back. I am hoping next time the food will return to its original flavor and offer the authentic cuisine I remember and admire.

Supersized burritos

If you have not waited in line for your supersized burrito you are missing out. Chipotle is one of the freshest and modern places to grab some grub. There menu selection is pretty condensed to Burrito, Burrito Bowl, Tacos (Soft or Hard) and Salad. After selecting which item you want you get, you choose what you want it topped with. You have a choice of cilantro white rice, black or pinto beans or you can skip the beans and get a fajita mix of onions. Next up your meat choices, I love the steak very tender and flavorful, as is the chicken juicy with a smoky taste. Finally you salsas, cheese, sour cream, lettuce and guacamole at an extra charge. The food is always fresh, quick and at a decent price. You can pair your meal with chips & salsa or guac. Always one of my favorite places to eat but be prepared to be rolled out of the building as afterwards you may feel a little bloated. Check out the newest location at 119th St in between Roe & Nall. Just opened Friday August 25th and the service was suberp.

Better than Taco Bell for those late night cravings

After a recent late night out with friends I was introduced to some great midnight grub. We went to Pancho’s. Apparently they work all hours, cause it was 3 am when we pulled into their drive-thru. My friend ordered us all carne asada burritos. They were the best burritos I have had on the road. The steak was meaty and flavorful. The burrito was filled with cheese and came with salsa and guacamole and was delicious. Perfect to tide over any late night hunger pains. Plus it won’t hit the wallet that hard. We all got burritos for under $15!! Now that is a steal. Being it was pretty late we did not dine in, so I am not sure how clean or up to date the dining area is. The outside gives the illusion it might be a little worn out. Design aside food was great, service was quick and I’ll be back!

2 Margaritas for $7 everyday - Can't beat that!

Just visited Cactus Grill in Prarie Village for a Tuesday dinner out. It was an early dinner around 5pm and the restaurant had not reached it’s peak dining hour. After checking in with the hostess we were quickly seated. Our server provided us with chips & salsa and I used a ValPak coupon to get a free order of espinaca dip. Our dip and drinks arrived very shortly after ordering. On this occasion I ordered a Steak Taco platter. The food arrived after a short wait and looked delicious. The steak was cooked well done and matched wonderfully with the homemade taco shells. The drink choice for the evening was Jose Cuervo margaritas. They are 2 for $7.00 every day! That is a deal you can not beat. You can even get them flavored at the same price. My choice is the peach margarita and it is still the best I have ever had. I highly recommend this Prarie Village location over the Cactus Grill located in Leawood. Servers here are much more friendlier and efficient. Our service was top notch. I would highly recommend Cactus Grill for your Taco Tuesday.
