“Bridesmaids” hits the nail on the head with its comedy about a girl who is getting married and the repercussions it can have on friendship ties.

Your best friend is getting married. What an exciting time…for the bride! “Bridesmaids” hits the nail on the head with its comedy about a girl who is getting married and the repercussions it can have on friendship ties. Annie (Kristen Wiig) is recently single and recouping from the loss of her bakery during an economic down slope. Her spirits are lifted slightly when her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) gets engaged. Despite her terrible love life and lack of funds Annie decides to make the best of it and jump in feet first into the daunting task of helping plan Lillian’s wedding and all the other events as her maid of honor.

Annie attends an engagement party for Lillian and her fiancé Doug. At this one of many events to come she meets all the bridesmaids in the wedding. The bridesmaids each have their own peculiar quirks, except for Helen (Rose Byrne) who seems to be perfect in every way. Immediately the tension between Annie and Helen is noticed as it seems they are competing for who is Lillian’s bestest friend and deserving of the title of maid of honor.

Annie starts planning things for the bridesmaids to do. First being a dress fitting which goes horribly wrong and features some of the best comedy in the film. Trying to save $800 on a bridesmaids dress she does her best to convince the other girls into purchasing the less expensive couture with little success. The event is a total washout from there when the entire bridal party winds up with food poisoning. Figuring things can only get better with the bachelorette party Annie starts planning, but is quickly demoted when Helen encourages all the girls to go to Las Vegas. Once again Annie causes another detour in the plans and winds up no longer in charge of the event planning.

As Helen drives a wedge between Lillian and Annie we begin to see how the stress is not weighing on just the bride but her maid of honor as well. “Bridesmaids” does an excellent job of letting you relive all that wedding angst you may have experienced in your own wedding or one that you may have been in. Maya Rudolph and Kritsen Wiig obviously had that great female bond that played very well on-screen. Rose Byrne was terrific as the superior stuck up yuppie Helen. “Bridesmaids” is a superb comedy that will have you laughing through to closing credits. Save the date and invite your girlfriends to the wedding of the year!

I can’t say it is the hit of the summer, but this film should definitely be on your must see list that you can rock out to.

“Get Him to the Greek” is the story of the rocker we came to love in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”. This time around I think I loved him a little more. Russell Brand is Aldous Snow, a rocker set on self-destruction following a separation from his true love and a failed album. Increasing his drug use and consistent drinking becomes a problem for intern Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) who has been given the task to get the rocker to his comeback concert at the Greek theatre. The ambitious intern comes up with a brilliant idea to bring millions of revenue to the suffering music industry by having Aldous have a comeback tour beginning in Los Angeles at the Greek Theatre.

Aaron may have bit off a little more than he can handle when he meets Aldous and finds this adventure is going to be a complicated one. From shots of absinthe to smuggling drugs at the airport the skits are endless and only lead to further delays of getting the rocker to his concert. After a brief visit to Vegas, Aaron and Aldous finally arrive in Los Angeles only to find another snag causing a serious delay of the show. Aaron must pull off his greatest work to ensure this concert is a smashing success and Aldous’ fans will be screaming for more.

“Get Him to the Greek” is a comical riot. The outrageous partying is similar to that of last year’s hit “The Hangover”. As enjoyable as Aaron and Aldous were to watch I found the characters were not as pleasing as leads. They seemed to fit in as everyone else and watching them for the entire run time eventually became tedious. Russell Brand in all of his awkwardness made this film a success. Sean Combs offered a stealer-supporting role in the film and was better than anticipated. I can’t say it is the hit of the summer, but this film should definitely be on your must see list that you can rock out to.

Surprising tale of love and perseverance.

Adam is a surprising tale of love and perseverance. Adam Raki (Hugh Dancy) is perplexed and has communication troubles. Feeling different and out of place he has sheltered himself for years, that is until his father pass’ away and he is forced to join the mainstream. Duties like grocery shopping, doing the laundry and riding the subway are foreign to Adam. Until he meets his new neighbor, Beth Buchwald (Rose Byrne), a beautiful, cosmopolitan young woman who pulls him into the outside world. The unlikely pairing proves just how far two people are willing to stretch in search of an extraordinary connection.

The connection does not come easy as Adam has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome and sometimes does not have a filter and can’t quite understand the dimensions of a true relationship. Beth heeds all warnings and continues her friendship with Adam that leads to a romantic relationship. As with any romance there are many trials and tribulations. Given they are not the same in every relationship; they definitely will test the love the two share.

Adam is a heartfelt intriguing tale, an insightful one too. Writer Max Mayer deals with the touchy subject beautifully, and Hugh Dancy proves to be a noteworthy star with his performance. Rose Byrne as the torn lover paralleled with mixed emotions was enjoyable to watch. The chemistry between Byrne and Dancy as these two lost souls looking to each other was undeniable. Towards the end the film seemed to drag a bit, and at first I was disappointed by the ending. Giving it much thought following I changed that opinion. I don’t look at this film as a love story, but rather as an inspirational tale about Adam, a story about his disease and his ability to grow as a person. Proving that all of us deserve love and that if we are strong enough we can all pick up and search for it. This New York love story proves love does not stand for one specific thing, loving is much more meaningful. You’ll see what I mean.

Knowing, The Unborn and Push out Tuesday

Well one of my least favorite films, “KNOWING” is coming to DVD this week. All I can say is if you want to see it, rent it to see how bad film making can truely be. Out on DVD this week:

Knowing: In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule but one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead. Fifty years later, Professor John Koestler (Nicolas Cage) makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts every major disaster of the past 50 years. As John further unravels the document’s chilling secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional events—the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve John and his son.

The Unborn: Enter a world of unrelenting evil as terror finds a new form in The Unborn. In this shocking supernatural thriller, a young woman, Casey (Yustman), is plagued by chilling dreams and tortured by a demonic ghost that haunts her waking hours. Her only hope to break the debilitating paranormal curse is in an exorcism with spiritual advisor Sendak (Oldman). See what lies beyond the doorway of our world in this non-stop nightmare of the undead.

Push: Hang on tight as a gang of super-powered paranormal operatives takes you on a white-knuckle thrill ride. The excitement starts when a future-seeing Watcher (Dakota Fanning) convinces a telekinetic Mover (Chris Evans) to help steal a briefcase that holds a billion-dollar secret. But to outrun government agents, they must enlist a mind controlling Pusher (Camilla Belle) who could be their salvation – or their doom.
