The newly opened Studio Movie Grill at Zona Rosa will feature an affordably priced Summer Children’s Series. A great opportunity for families to cool off on a hot Summer day. With affordable ticket prices and a great selection of films it sounds like a great Summer outing to me!

The 2010 Summer Children’s Series at Studio Movie Grill starts June 7 and runs through Aug. 19. All movies start at 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday and cost $1 for children aged 12 and under; and adults are $2. The movies are presented in partnership with the YMCA of Kansas City.

Studio Movie Grill is located at 7430 NW 87th Street in Zona Rosa. The theater complex consists of eight 100-percent digital projection, Dolby Digital Surround Sound and Dolby 3D as well as an extensive menu for in-theater dining. At competitive ticket prices, movie-goers can view first-run movies in the comfort and luxury of restaurant style seating, with table service for dinner and drinks.

Zona Rosa offers a great outdoor shopping area that is finally adding a theatre into the mix. The first R rated film that I saw was Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. I went with my Dad who was embarrassed about the sex scenes in that movie. I was 14 and back then did not go to the movies very often.

Wait time was the average in receiving the food. The nachos were a little disappointing. I did not care for the combination of all the toppings with the chili on top, could have done without it. It added a bit much to the flavors. The hamburger was cooked to perfection and was pretty tasty for a burger, sided with waffle fries which were a crispy golden brown. I did not have dessert on this visit, but I have had the cheesecake before and it was delicious. Cheesecake was very creamy and fluffy, topped with the sweet strawberry sauce. A perfect way to end any meal.

Due to the happy hour specials our dinner was at a valued price, but at other times prices are a little on the higher end. The restaurant was beautiful, newly remodeled with comfortable seating and large open windows & doors offering tons of natural lighting. Would not be my first dining choice Downtown, but with its decent happy hours and late night crowds it should be a hit.

Synopsis

This is a story of boy meets girl, begins the wry, probing narrator of (500) DAYS OF SUMMER, and with that the film takes off at breakneck speed into a funny, true-to-life and unique dissection of the unruly and unpredictable year-and-a-half of one young man’s no-holds-barred love affair.

Tom, the boy, still believes, even in this cynical modern world, in the notion of a transforming, cosmically destined, lightning-strikes-once kind of love.   Summer, the girl, doesn’t.  Not at all.  But that doesn’t stop Tom from going after her, again and again, like a modern Don Quixote, with all his might and courage. Suddenly, Tom is in love not just with a lovely, witty, intelligent woman – not that he minds any of that — but with the very idea of Summer, the very idea of a love that still has the power to shock the heart and stop the world.

The fuse is lit on Day 1 – when Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a would-be architect turned sappy greeting card writer encounters Summer (Zooey Deschanel), his boss’s breezy, beautiful new secretary, fresh off the plane from Michigan.  Though seemingly out of his league, Tom soon discovers he shares plenty in common with Summer.  After all, they both love The Smiths.  They both have a thing for the surrealist artist Magritte. Tom once lived in Jersey and Summer has a cat named Bruce.  As Tom muses, “we’re compatible like crazy.”

By Day 31, things are moving ahead, albeit “casually.”  By Day 32, Tom is irreparably smitten, living in a giddy, fantastical world of Summer on his mind.  By Day 185, things are in serious limbo — but not without hope.  And as the story winds backwards and forwards through Tom and Summer’s on-again, off-again, sometimes blissful, often tumultuous dalliance it covers the whole dizzying territory from infatuation, dating and sex to separation, recrimination and redemption in a whirl of time jumps, split screens, karaoke numbers and cinematic verve – all of which adds up to a kaleidoscopic portrait of why, and how, we still struggle so laughably, cringingly hard to make sense of love . . . and to hopefully make it real.
