Bandslam, Twilight: New Moon, Broken Embraces, Armored, The Fourth Kind, Did You Hear About the Morgans, Astro Boy, Ninja Assassin and The Princess and the Frog.

Everyone will be looking forward to the Twlight: New Moon DVD release on Friday, but there are also EIGHT new releases this week as well. Coming to DVD this week are:

The Princess and the Frog: A musical set in the greatest city of them all, New Orleans, “The Princess and the Frog” marks Disney’s return to the timeless art form of traditional animation. The film teams Ron Clements and John Musker, creators of “The Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin,” with Oscar-winning composer Randy Newman to tell the most beautiful love story ever told — with frogs, voodoo, and a singing alligator.

Ninja Assassin: Raizo (Rain) is one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them…and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge. In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated. Now, entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse through the streets of Europe, Raizo and Mika must trust one another if they hope to survive…and finally bring down the elusive Ozunu Clan.

Did You Hear About the Morgans?: Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant star in this delightful, heartwarming comedy about finding love in the most unexpected places. Two successful New Yorkers, Meryl (Parker) and Paul (Grant), are at their wits’ ends on how to solve their strained marriage. But when they become the only witnesses to a brutal murder, the police hide them away in Wyoming – together. Now these diehard city dwellers will have to survive the weather, bears, fresh air, and forced time with one another if they want to make it out alive.

The Fourth Kind: In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind.

This encounter has been the most difficult to document-until now. Set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where–mysteriously since the 1960s–a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered. Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.

Astro Boy: Astro Boy follows the adventures of a young-yet-powerful robot who, in the hopes of winning his inventor-father’s heart, sets off on a quest to rid the world of evil. However, he soon discovers that his home, Metro City, stands on the brink of destruction, and it is up to him to save the day as well as his friends and family.

Armored: A crew of officers at an armored transport security firm risk their lives when they embark on the ultimate heist… against their own company. Armed with a seemingly fool-proof plan, the men plan on making off with a fortune with harm to none. But when an unexpected witness interferes, the plan quickly unravels and all bets are off.A crew of officers at an armored transport security firm risk their lives when they embark on the ultimate heist… against their own company. Armed with a seemingly fool-proof plan, the men plan on making off with a fortune with harm to none. But when an unexpected witness interferes, the plan quickly unravels and all bets are off.

Broken Embraces: A luminous Penélope Cruz stars as an actress who sacrifices everything for true love in Academy Award® -winning filmmaker (2003, Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Talk to Her) Pedro Almodóvar’s acclaimed tale of sex, secrets and cinema. When her father becomes gravely ill, beautiful Lena (Cruz) consents to a relationship with her boss Ernesto (José Luis Gómez), a very wealthy, much-older man who pays for her father’s hospitalization and provides her a lavish lifestyle. But Lena’s dream is to act and soon she falls for the director of her first film – a project bankrolled by her husband to keep her near. Upon his discovery of the affair, Ernesto stops at nothing to ruin Lena’s happiness.A luminous Penélope Cruz stars as an actress who sacrifices everything for true love in Academy Award® -winning filmmaker (2003, Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Talk to Her) Pedro Almodóvar’s acclaimed tale of sex, secrets and cinema.
Bandslam: Vanessa Hudgens, Aly Michalka, Gaelan Connell and Lisa Kudrow star in a comedy about following dreams and doing what scares you. Ultra-popular Charlotte (Michalka) is determined to face-off against her ex at the country’s biggest music competition. She just needs a band. Newcomer Will (Connell) knows more about musicians than anyone. He just needs a friend. And, rebel guitar player Sam (Hudgens) has a wicked voice but needs someone to believe in her. Together, this unlikely trio will take on Bandslam in a way no one thought possible.

Whiteout, Pandorum, The Invetion of Lying and Gamer.

Not a great week in the DVD community. I found myself not impressed by the films coming out today, but perhaps you will find something you enjoy. Out on DVD today:

Gamer: GAMER is a high-concept action thriller set in a near future when gaming and entertainment have evolved into a terrifying new hybrid. Humans control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online games: people play people… for keeps. Mind-control technology is widespread, and at the heart of the controversial games is its creator, reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). His latest brainchild, the first-person shooter game “Slayers,” allows millions to act out their most savage fantasies online in front of a global audience, using real prisoners as avatars with whom they fight to the death.

Kable (300′s Gerard Butler) is the superstar and cult hero of the ultraviolent “Slayers.” Kable is controlled by Simon, a young gamer with rock star status who continues to defy all odds by guiding Kable to victory each week. Taken from his family, imprisoned and forced to fight against his will, the modern day gladiator must survive long enough to escape the game to free his family, regain his identity and to save mankind from Castle’s ruthless technology.

The Invention of Lying: In an alternate reality, lying – even the concept of a lie – does not even exist. Everyone – from politicians to advertisers to the man and woman on the street – speaks the truth and nothing but the truth with no thought of the consequences.

But when a down-on-his-luck loser named Mark suddenly develops the ability to lie, he finds that dishonesty has its rewards. In a world where every word is assumed to be the absolute truth, Mark easily lies his way to fame and fortune. But lies have a way of spreading, and Mark begins to realize that things are getting a little out of control when some of his tallest tales are being taken as, well, gospel. With the entire world now hanging on his every word, there is only one thing Mark has not been able to lie his way into: the heart of the woman he loves.

Pandorum: When two men emerge from a deep sleep in the middle of space, they discover that they have no memories of who they are and where they’re going. But their memory loss pales in comparison to the problem of the murderous warriors on board their ship who don’t want to leave anyone alive.

Whiteout: After two years stationed at Antarctica’s South Pole research base, lone U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale) is as anxious as anyone to be going home. She’s turned in her resignation and is counting the hours and minutes to the last plane out. But three days before departure, a body turns up on the ice and Carrie is immediately thrust into Antarctica’s first murder investigation. As the death toll mounts, the mystery deepens with shifting loyalties, deadly whiteouts, and a relentless killer who will stop at nothing to protect a secret buried for over sixty years. Now with everyone around her packing up and getting out, Carrie must solve the crime before Antarctica is plunged into six months of darkness and she is stranded with the killer on a land where nothing comes in and no one gets out.
