The Hangover, G-Force, Inglourious Basterds, and Taking Woodstock.

Talk about some great movies coming to DVD that will make wonderful stocking stuffers. Out on DVD today:

The Hangover: Two days before his wedding, Doug and his three friends drive to Las Vegas for a blow-out bachelor party they’ll never forget. But, in fact, when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning, they can’t remember a thing. For some reason, they find a tiger in the bathroom and a six-month-old baby in the closet of their suite at Caesars Palace.

The one thing they can’t find is Doug. With no clue as to what transpired and little time to spare, the trio must retrace their hazy steps and all their bad decisions in order to figure out where things went wrong and hopefully get Doug back to L.A. in time to walk down the aisle.

G-Force: Armed with the latest high-tech spy equipment, a covert team of highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws. Tapped for the G-FORCE are guinea pigs Darwin, the squad leader determined to succeed at all costs; Blaster, an outrageous weapons expert with tons of attitude and a love for all things extreme; and Juarez, a sexy martial arts pro; plus the literal fly-on-the-wall reconnaissance expert Mooch, and a star-nosed mole Speckles, the computer and information specialist.

Inglourious Basterds: In German-occupied France, Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa. Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own…

Taking Woodstock: A generation began in his backyard… From Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), comes Taking Woodstock, a new comedy inspired by the true story of Elliot Tiber (Demetri Martin) and his family, who inadvertently played a pivotal role in making the famed Woodstock Music and Arts Festival into the happening that it was.

It’s 1969, and Elliot Tiber, a down-on-his-luck interior designer in Greenwich Village, New York, has to move back upstate to help his parents run their dilapidated Catskills motel, The El Monaco. The bank’s about to foreclose; his father wants to burn the place down, but hasn’t paid the insurance; and Elliot is still figuring how to come out to his parents.

When Elliot hears that a neighboring town has pulled the permit on a hippie music festival, he calls the producers, thinking he could drum up some much-needed business for the motel. Three weeks later, half a million people are on their way to his neighbor’s farm in White Lake, NY, and Elliot finds himself swept up in a generation-defining experience that would change his life, and American culture, forever.

Terminator Salvation and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Two films, both had predecessors. Both not as good as the originals but still entertaining. Out on DVD today:

Terminator Salvation: The year is 2018.

Judgment Day has come and gone, leveling modern civilization. An army of Terminators roams the post-apocalyptic landscape, killing or collecting humans where they hide in the desolate cities and deserts. But small groups of survivors have organized into a Resistance, hiding in underground bunkers and striking when they can against an enemy force that vastly outnumbers them.

Controlling the Terminators is the artificial intelligence network Skynet, which became self-aware 14 years earlier and, in the blink of an eye, turned on its creators, unleashing nuclear annihilation on an unsuspecting world.

Only one man saw Judgment Day coming. One man, whose destiny has always been intertwined with the fate of human existence: John Connor (Christian Bale).

Now the world is on the brink of the future that Connor has been warned about all his life. But something totally new has shaken his belief that humanity stands a chance of winning this war: the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger from the past whose last memory is of being on death row before awakening in this strange, new world.

Connor must decide whether Marcus can be trusted. But as Skynet adapts new strategies to end the Resistance forever, Connor and Marcus must find common ground to take a stand against the onslaught–to infiltrate Skynet and meet the enemy head-on.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian: Night has fallen upon the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. The guides have gone home, the lights are out, the school kids are tucked in their beds… yet something incredible is stirring as former night guard Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) finds himself lured into his biggest, most imagination-boggling adventure yet in which history truly comes alive.

In this second installment of the Night at the Museum saga, Larry faces a battle so epic it could only unfold in the corridors of the world’s largest museum. Now, Larry must try to save his formerly inanimate friends from what could be their last stand amid the wonders of the Smithsonian, all of which, from the famous paintings on the walls to the rocket ships in the halls, suddenly have a mind of their own.

"The Goods" stooped to new lows by using cancer and pedophiles as a comical crutch.

I know most people can’t stand buying a car due to the salesmen, and this film “The Goods: Live Hard * Sell Hard” does not make them anymore appealing. In this comedy Jeremy Piven stars as Don Ready, an avid professional at getting what he wants with his confident sly dealings. Ready and his team are approached and asked to help save an ailing local car dealership from bankruptcy. Ready and his crew, Brent Gage (David Koechner), Babs Merrick (Kathryn Hahn) and Jibby Newsome (Ving Rhames) descend on the town of Temecula like a spinning tornado. Arriving and uprooting the old dealership, turning it into a buyer’s magnet. Proving just why they are the sought after team selling seventy cars in the first day.

Using every trick at their disposal: strippers, babies, discount pricing, death and even a riot to “Sell the Metal”. As the team moves forward with the weekend super sale, Don loses his focus. Discovering what he is missing from life and letting himself feel the void. As he does some soul searching he also unexpectedly falls in love. The sales must go on with or without the team leader. Will they meet their promised deadline or will the team admit defeat?

“The Goods” has to imply an antonym as it is far from good. Despite starring the Emmy award winning Jeremy Piven, the writing destroyed any chance of success. I am all for a good comedy, but this film is at a lost for any continuous laughs, offering a handful of skits thrown together in an attempt to make a short film. The characters were undeveloped which made you care less about what happened to them. “The Goods” stooped to new lows by using cancer and pedophiles as a comical crutch. I would not bother purchasing a ticket for this embarrassing comedy, wait for the DVD and be sure to RENT it!

Pushing the envelope unlike anything the industry has offered us this year; "The Hangover" provides the escape factor. Prepare for the wild ride!

Wild thing…I think I love you. Sentiments I would never expect to express after watching a raunchy comedy surrounding an all boys trip to Las Vegas. When three groomsmen gather together to give the groom a night he will never forget, it turns out to be something they all forget. Doug (Justin Bartha) is getting married in two days and as a final hurrah his friends Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Stu (Ed Helms) drag him to Vegas. Along for the ride is the bride’s brother Alan (Zach Galifianakis), a quirky character who adds a certain flavor to the film. As they arrive like royalty to their suite at Caesar’s Palace they get the party started. Dressed to the nines they head to the roof for an initial drink to toast the groom and offer him an evening he will not forget, or will he.

Flash forward. The men wake up to the darkest of hangovers. They find a Siberian tiger in their bathroom, a trashed room, a groomsman with a missing tooth and a baby in the closet. It could not get any worse, except they realize Doug the groom is missing. With twenty four hours till the wedding the search is on. Turns out on their night of lushness they visited Mike Tyson’s home, the emergency room, a strip club, a chapel and wound up back at the hotel in a police car that they valet parked. Things only get stranger when someone leaps at them out of the trunk naked, after recovering their car. You find yourself asking “What the hell is going on?” Things are not getting much better when Phil has to inform the bride that the wedding is not gonna happen…you can’t get married without the groom.

“The Hangover” is the wackiest and funniest film this year, quite possibly of the last decade. From opening credits to the closing, which features reminiscent bachelor party photos this film had me laughing non-stop. Appealing film for the females, but a little racy for the younger crowd. Something you can expect from this comedy especially based on the title. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis had wonderful chemistry. Galifianakis stole the show with his wacky performance, any man who can pull of white pants and a purse is a definite show stopper. You will find yourself talking about “The Hangover” hours later and telling all your friends about how great it is. Pushing the envelope unlike anything the industry has offered us this year; “The Hangover” provides the escape factor. So sit back and relax and prepare yourself for the wild wide. I know I will ride it again!
