Cassidy is looking for someone on the force he can trust and request police psychologist Lydia Mercer (Elizabeth Banks). Lydia was recently front page news when her last negotiations did not go so well and they lost a rookie officer. When Lydia arrives on the scene something does not seem right. She suspects that this is not your typical jumper and wonder’s what else may be going on.

Soon after she tries to coax Cassidy off the ledge we discover his true motives for causing the scene in Manhattan. He has a microphone and ear piece on and is communicating with someone. It looks like Cassidy is willing to do whatever it takes to prove his innocence even if it means stealing the diamond back to prove he never stole and cut it up for distribution to begin with.

His plan of jumping is all a decoy that is going beautifully. However with time running out and allies against him he will only have one shot to get it right and prove his innocence. “Man on a Ledge” is a high energy thriller that had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Sam Worthington had a superb performance and I found myself rooting for him the entire time. The storyline is not plausible, but is the entertainment we all need to escape to every now & then. With so many surprises you will find yourself immersed with “Man on a Ledge” and excited to see the conclusion!

Thomas is a loving father who is making his living as a jeweler and as Oskar would say on the worst day his father was in the World Trade Center for a meeting. Thomas makes several phone calls to his wife and home over the course of an hour or two from the time the tower was hit to the moment it collapsed. It is a reality that the world has seen played out over and over again, but this time we are seeing it through a child’s eyes. A child who knows at the very moment that he has lost his father forever.

Oskar is going through the emotions and trying to not forget his father as time passes. He is having a hard time communicating with his mother Linda (Sandra Bullock), who is also suffering the loss of her husband. As the two try to move forward Oskar finds a way to remain close to his father with his latest adventure. He finds a key his father has hidden away. Wondering what it could possibly open he begins to trek all over New York City to find what the key may open. With few clues to go on and desperate to find what his father left behind it seems hopeless.

What Oskar finds along the way are caring people who are sharing their stories as well. He finds he is not the only one dealing with sadness and loss. Eventually the key opens a lock, but not to what Oskar was hoping. In the end Oskar finds closure and a way to reconnect not only with his father, but his mother too.

“Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” is an inspirational film that managed to cover the sensitive event of September 11 in a graceful way. This tragedy affected so many families and you get an exact idea of how much the children were impacted. Thomas Horn who portrays Oskar is truly amazing. This young gentleman makes his acting debut in “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” and you would think he had been doing this forever. The emotion he manages to evoke in a single scene is brilliant. He captivated me and had me living with him through the emotions. He makes the film and his journey is one that you will not want to end. “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” is a film that won’t be forgotten and will have an impact on many.

Looking for change that will be best for the family he makes an insane choice to move his family away from the city and onto a zoo reservation. The house sits on the reservation and after seeing his daughter’s reaction to the zoo he knows that this may be the best investment for his family’s future. Not knowing much about zoo upkeep and the animal’s well being he is taught a lot fairly quickly from the zookeepers. Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson) is the head of the zookeepers and has some frank advice for the dad in his latest adventure.

Kelly is sure to let Benjamin know his journey could turn into a disaster and they all depend on his dedication for the zoo and its staff to survive. There are a lot of heartwarming moments in this film, but it crosses the line between realistic and ridiculous.

Benjamin’s choice to improve a situation at home does not make sense. I find it hard to understand how buying a zoo will better their lives. If anything that type of investment would hinder one’s ability to do that. “We Bought a Zoo” makes an attempt to be enjoyable, but has a few flaws that are hard to look past. The one delight you will get from this film is the adorable Maggie Elizabeth Jones (Rosie Mee) who captures the audience with her adorable charm. For the holidays it does come packaged very well and kids will love the idea of living in the backyard of a zoo, but for some adults it misses the mark.

Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door and quickly attracts the attention of the most important people in Charley’s life, his mother (Toni Collette) and his girlfriend Amy (Imogen Poots). A little thrown by his charm and odd behavior he does not immediate suspect Jerry, but after his friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) shares his concerns he begins to wonder if he could truly be living next door to a vampire. Charley begins to question it more and decides to test his theory. Once he does his suspicion is proven that Jerry is indeed a vampire and a danger to everyone he cares about.

When everyone thinks Charley is crazy for his belief of vampires he turns to self proclaimed vampire killer and magician Peter Vincent (David Tennant) to help take down Jerry. It turns out that this vampire killer is more of the hide and cry type. Not one to face the evil that appears he runs into hiding. After Charley loses Amy to Jerry he insists that Vincent man up and assists him in the battle against evil. Teaming up the duo will do what it takes to take this dark beast down and save a few lives along the way.

“Fright Night” definitely misses the mark of humor and horror that I would expect. Unless you get humor from laughing at the disaster this film seems to be. The special effects were so bad that I think the 1985 version would have shown it up. There was a great deal of gore which covers part of the horror you would suspect from this type of film. The cast did not have very much chemistry and the performances left me bored to tears. I have to say I am glad I missed this one in theatres but if you really want to check it out be sure to pick up the DVD with deleted and extended scenes, bloopers, and the official “How to Make a Vampire Movie Guide”.

No New Year’s Eve is complete without Time’s Square ball drop. Claire Morgan (Hilary Swank) is in charge of the ball drop, but it is apparent she has another engagement on her mind. Those plans will need to be set aside after a malfunction may cause the ball to not drop.

Jensen (Bon Jov) is the evening’s entertainment, but his performance is for more then his fans as he is looking for forgiveness from former flame Laura (Katherine Heigl). Laura is the head chef for the big New Year’s event and can’t deal with drama and pushes Jensen away.

Across town a battle is beginning over the New Year baby. Apparently the first baby of the New Year is entitled to a cash prize. When two couples discover this they start a race to get the first newborn of 2012.

In another area of the hospital is Stan Harris (Robert De Niro) a dying man who’s last wish is to watch the ball drop from the roof of the hospital. Nurse Aimee (Halle Berry) is caring for Stan, but finds a few minutes to slip away and talk to her husband, a soldier via video chat.

Then there is the teen crowd who is trying to gather for the night’s festivities. Hailey (Abigail Breslin) is doing what it takes to get her mom Kim (Sarah Jessica Parker) to let her go, but it is not going over well. Of course you have the unexpected singles who have chemistry after being trapped in an elevator and then the lost loves who are desperate to find each other.

My personal favorite is Ingrid (Michelle Pfeiffer) who is looking to complete a list of New Year’s resolutions. Ingird’s first task is to quit her job which she does, then turning to errand runner Paul (Zac Efron) to help her finish her list. These two together were charming and hilarious.

To say “New Year’s Eve” is cheesy is an understatement. Yes it is what you will expect. Love struck people running around and trying to have a good time. But that is also what makes the film fun. It is an all star cast so most fans will find an actor they enjoy watching. If you want to get out and have a fun time and prepare for 2012 brave the cold to check out ‘New Years Eve”!

Skeeter is not like the other girls in Mississippi. It is obvious she does not believe in the same things her friends do. Returning from college and determined to become a mainstream writer she will turn the town upside down and lose a few friends along the way. The first maid Skeeter approaches is Aibileen (Viola Davis) who works for Skeeter’s best-friend. At first apprehensive Aibileen refuses to help Skeeter, but after fear that things will never be equal she begins to tell her tale.

Her words are honest and you feel for this woman and her struggles. Revealing the truth of her current job that she is raising Elizabeth’s child (Ahna O’Reilly) and now there is another baby on the way. It is obvious that young Mae Mobley (Emma Henry) has a connection with Aibileen, one that only a mother should have, but Elizabeth does not seem to have a mothering bone in her body and her child is suffering the consequences of that.

As more maids come forward all the stories are making the book into an instant hit. Soon it comes time for one final story, the story from the writer herself, Skeeter who looked at her maid as a mother figure. As truths are revealed Skeeter realizes this book is a masterpiece and something she hopes everyone can learn from.

“The Help” is refreshing and possibly the best film of the year. As many relationships are tested and lost a new sisterhood emerges of woman who are much stronger and independent then they use to be. Oscar worthy performances by Emma Stone and Viola Davis are noticed. Not to mention the amusing Octavia Spencer as Minny Jackson who was a scene stealer throughout the film.
