Valentine’s Day Movie Review

Valentines-Day-PosterValentine’s Days is a holiday that most people either love or hate. In my opinion it is about purchasing the love of that special someone. Whether its dinner, flowers, diamonds or chocolates it all comes done to the pressures and expectations to prove that love. The film “Valentine’s Day” proves this over and over again in its story of love gone wrong. Following the lives of many lovers showing how desperate they are to have that special someone on this special day. The first couple we see is Morley (Jessica Alba) and Reed (Ashton Kutcher). Reed is head over heels for his live in girlfriend Morley and proposes to her. Overly excited about her saying yes he tells everyone, only to find out later that Morley is unsure about this big commitment.

Throughout the day Reed runs his local floral shop in Los Angeles and is extremely busy. Julia (Jennifer Garner) his best friend stops by to share her news about how she is falling for the guy of her dreams. Dr. Harrison Copeland (Patrick Dempsey) is that perfect guy that Julia can’t stop thinking about. Disappointed that he will be working on Valentine’s Day she decides to surprise him at the hospital. Julia only finds heartbreak when she learns that McDreamy is not working, but instead has been lying.

valentines_day_005Just as it looks like everyone’s Valentine’s Day is becoming a tragic chain of events they bring in the teenagers who are super excited to carry bears around at school all day and share unlimited make out sessions. Felicia (Taylor Swift) is one of these overzealous teens who is in puppy love with her boyfriend Willy (Taylor Lautner). Their high school friends Grace (Emma Roberts) and Alex (Carter Jenkins) are planning to make love for the first time to celebrate the occasion.

33820PCN_BielAs some are living the day up and loving everything about it there are a few who hate it. Kara (Jessica Biel) celebrates the day with her fellow singles by bashing it with a loveless dinner. Kara soon discovers she has chemistry with a fellow loveless player Kelvin (Jamie Foxx). While they are discovering there interest in each other so are Jason (Topher Grace) and Liz (Anne Hathaway) co-workers who after a few dates are trying to figure out how to celebrate the day. Meanwhile Capt. Kate Hazeltine (Julia Roberts) is flying home to be with her loved one for only twenty four hours. Something that Holden (Bradley Cooper) is impressed by. Other lovers we see are Edgar (Hector Elizondo) and Estelle (Shirley MacLaine) who have been in love for many years only to discover a dark secret in their pass.

All these major stars together could wind up being a complete bust, but it actually works. “Valentine’s Day” displays all the emotions Valentine’s Day brings up including love, regrets, lust, heartbreak and deceit. With so many wonderful performers the ones who stood out would be Jessica Biel who was very relatable to a girlfriend most woman tend to have. George Lopez was underused in this film and his comedy could have added a much needed undertone. Eric Dane offered a shocking jaw dropping performance that everyone will be talking about. And finally let’s talk about the over-rated Taylor Swift. I’m sorry Taylor, but your acting was awful. It was overplayed and so annoying that I was waiting for your heart to break. Stick to your singing as a career, acting is not your forte. “Valentine’s Day” will be the perfect film to catch with your loved one. A little on the long side, but it takes time to tell everyone’s love story after all. Attention guys: skip the roses and truffles and take her to something she will really love.

I couldn’t agree with you more about Taylor Swift! Watching her on the screen actually made me a bit uncomfortable! She couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag! I did enjoy the movie though…it was VERY cute and I usually hate Romantic Comedies….

Taylor’s not overrated, and her acting isn’t bad. You Taylor haters are wrong about her – you always have been and you always will be. She was supposed to seem goofy and quirky in the movie. She’s awesome when it comes to singing, song writing, playing guitar, and acting. Sorry Taylor haters, just telling the truth.

    Shut up, Jess.

Do you really think you’re even close to being objective in regards to Taylor Swift’s acting ability?

This picture is so bad, I was looking for Colin Firth. How did he manage to miss out on this bomb?

i completely agree with jess. though i thought the character taylor played was a little over the top, she was just playing the part she was told to play. she obviously has acting skills. her role in csi was amazing.

Taylor Swift cannot act if her life depended on it. For all those who say she was acting and that was her part…well I’ve seen her in interviews where she is herself and she acts like an airhead in real life. So she isn’t acting when she is basically being her stupid self. Its sad cause i used to like her b4 the mtv awards with Kanye but since then u can tell that she is a fake person and her playing this sweet and innocent role is not convincing anyone anymore. Movie would have been a c but Taylor Swift turned it I to an F. Sorry to the T fans but you will see.
