Twitter, the wildly popular service that is revolutionizing modern communication, and The Weinstein Company have come together for the first ever red carpet TweetUp at the Hollywood gala premiere of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, taking place on August 10, 2009.
Guests at the Hollywood premiere of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS will be able to see timely conversations, opinions and experiences as they emerge from the red carpet on special large screens at the premiere and at the exclusive after-party at Hollywood’s Mondrian hotel. Twitter-users at home and on mobile devices around the globe can even interact.
The August 10 premiere of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS is presented by Activsion’s “Wolfenstein,” Morgans Hotel Group, Skyy Vodka and Stella Artois.
“Whether it’s an urgent global event, or a fun night out, we’ve noticed that events of many kinds come alive in new and interesting ways when participants have access to Twitter,” said Biz Stone, Twitter co-founder. “The Weinstein Company’s idea to throw the first ever Red Carpet TweetUp for this premiere is brilliant and I’m looking forward to it.”
Tom Ortenberg, President of Theatrical Films for The Weinstein Company added, “It’s fantastic to be able to take an already larger-than-life event like a movie premiere and take it to a whole new level by allowing fans to interact In real time. Our friends at Twitter have helped make this first-ever event a real innovation in how we are reaching movie-goers.”
HOW IT WORKS
Twitter has the ability to build a new dimension into shared and live events. Guests will now be able to participate in conversations across the room as they take place by watching each other’s thoughts as they scroll by on the wide-screen, which will usher a new level of connectivity to the atmosphere of the event.
Before and after the premiere screening of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, celebrities and all premiere guests are encouraged to “Tweet” from their mobile phones (works on any phone with SMS capability) – anticipation for the film, a quick review, or an exciting celebrity sighting at the party. Guests are asked not to “Tweet” during the screening of the film.
