I know most people can’t stand buying a car due to the salesmen, and this film “The Goods: Live Hard * Sell Hard” does not make them anymore appealing. In this comedy Jeremy Piven stars as Don Ready, an avid professional at getting what he wants with his confident sly dealings. Ready and his team are approached and asked to help save an ailing local car dealership from bankruptcy. Ready and his crew, Brent Gage (David Koechner), Babs Merrick (Kathryn Hahn) and Jibby Newsome (Ving Rhames) descend on the town of Temecula like a spinning tornado. Arriving and uprooting the old dealership, turning it into a buyer’s magnet. Proving just why they are the sought after team selling seventy cars in the first day.

Using every trick at their disposal: strippers, babies, discount pricing, death and even a riot to “Sell the Metal”. As the team moves forward with the weekend super sale, Don loses his focus. Discovering what he is missing from life and letting himself feel the void. As he does some soul searching he also unexpectedly falls in love. The sales must go on with or without the team leader. Will they meet their promised deadline or will the team admit defeat?

“The Goods” has to imply an antonym as it is far from good. Despite starring the Emmy award winning Jeremy Piven, the writing destroyed any chance of success. I am all for a good comedy, but this film is at a lost for any continuous laughs, offering a handful of skits thrown together in an attempt to make a short film. The characters were undeveloped which made you care less about what happened to them. “The Goods” stooped to new lows by using cancer and pedophiles as a comical crutch. I would not bother purchasing a ticket for this embarrassing comedy, wait for the DVD and be sure to RENT it!
