The Crazies Movie Review

thecrazies_final_poster“The Crazies” are out and they are magnificent. David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) is just your ordinary small town Sheriff who finds himself involved in a mystery plaguing the town. The strangeness begins when one of the first crazies interrupts a baseball game shotgun in hand. Rory (Mike Hickman), the former town drunk is the gun wielding mad man. David approaches Rory thinking it is a simple case of a drunk displaying rage, but he quickly notices that Rory is in another state of mind and when Rory points the weapon at the Sheriff he reacts quickly to protect himself.

Things only get stranger when it is discovered by his toxicology report that Rory had zero alcohol in his system. David has guilt over what happened, but also wonders what caused Rory’s strange demeanor. Only adding to the horror is Bill (Brett Rickaby) who has just trapped his son and wife and set fire to his house shortly after a visit to the town physician Dr. Judy Dutton (Radha Mitchell). Judy happens to be David’s wife and recounts how earlier during clinic hours Bill’s wife brought him in with concerns of his strange behavior. As the two crazies emerge it is obvious something is attacking this small town.

the_crazies_04David and his deputy Russell Clank (Joe Anderson) look into reports of a plane crash from earlier in the week that they believed to be false reports from an eager for fame citizen. When they discover it is true and that the plane lays in their water supply, David is quick to turn the water off. As the contaminated water has already been supplied to most of the town it may be too late to save everyone. It won’t be up to David and Russell to rescue the town as it is quickly raided by the government who separates the infected and destroys the entire town and anyone in it.

“The Crazies” was a wild ride that offered many thrills. Timothy Olyphant took on this lead role in stride and proved he was a Sheriff not to be messed with. His sidekick Joe Anderson had a superb performance that had you feeling his emotions. The storyline was laid out well and was very believable. You always wonder what is in that tap water you are drinking and sometimes it is better if you go for that bottle water instead. There were many jump out and scare you moments, but they were not overdone. There was not an overabundance of blood & gore and a great hint of comedy that had me loving “The Crazies”.
