The Back Up Plan

The-Back-up-Plan-PosterAs they say every woman has that internal clock that is ticking. For those who have not found Mr. Right the solution is to create Mr. Right, the one that comes in a tube. In “The Back Up Plan” Jennifer Lopez is Zoe, an attractive New Yorker who has found a successful career but is missing that piece to her future. After numerous failed relationships she has given up that the ‘one’ will ever appear. As life is passing her by she finds herself longing for a child. Taking the steps necessary Zoe decides insemination from a sperm donor to be her best bet.

As fate would have it immediately following her implantation she meets Stan (Alex O’Loughlin) and the pair have an immediate disdain for each other. As Zoe has mothering thoughts on her mind, a man is the last thing she is thinking of. That is until she gets her second glimpse of Stan at the local farmer’s market. Finding him attractive and charming she begins to gravitate towards the what if conclusion only to have it diminished by the “muffin girl” who ask Stan if she will be seeing him later that night.

Deciding now is not the time to dabble in her love life Zoe moves on, only to find herself being pursued by Stan. He shows up at her work and asks for a date. The first date turns into two and then an invitation out to his farm. After the second date, still not believing she is pregnant Zoe is shocked and horrified to see that big red plus sign. Hormones in overdrive Zoe finds herself unable to control herself around Stan and around the food that she constantly devours.

Finally Zoe decides it is time to fess up to Stan. Admitting she is pregnant and explaining the why and how, which Stan does not find humor in and is immediately appalled. Admitting he is not sure he wants kids, but also knowing that he has serious feelings for Zoe he decides to jump into a relationship with her and accept the baby as his own. In what World does that happen?

gallery_main-jennifer-lopez-alex-oloughlin-backup-plan-set-07232009-01“The Back Up Plan” is a great comeback for Jennifer Lopez. It is an adorable romantic comedy and I can admit as a six month pregnant woman she played true to the feelings most pregnant woman are experiencing. I enjoyed Alex O’Loughlin’s performance as the man in love and fearing everything that was coming with the woman he was committed to. Sadly once again I felt a lack of chemistry between Jennifer Lopez and her male co-star O’Loughlin, and due to that fact it made the story hard to believe. Chemistry aside this is a MAJOR chick flick. Knocked Up was a film all men could enjoy, but if I dragged my husband to this film I would never hear the end of it.  Ladies leave your men at home and check out this film with your girlfriends, as it is a cute film that most will enjoy.
