Who would have thought so many laughs could come from such an occasion? That is what comes to be from the film “Death at a Funeral”. It does help that it has some of comedies finest in the film to make it such a laughing hit. Aaron (Chris Rock) and Ryan (Martin Lawrence) are two competitive brothers who have just lost their father. Ryan’s return home only seems to stir the pot, as it is obvious he is the favored son. Things only escalate as Ryan shows disinterest in any financial obligation towards the services.

As the rest of the family arrives it becomes a full on circus. Cynthia (Lorette Devine) is grieving the loss of her husband but has to deal with the chaos that comes with the family reuniting for the funeral. Elaine (Zoe Saldana) comes with her boyfriend Oscar (James Marsden) who is acting rather odd after taking a “valium” for the event to help ease his nerves. Apparently the valium was a bit much for Oscar who knocks over the casket and winds up nude on the roof.

Norman (Tracy Morgan) is tending to the elder Uncle Russell (Danny Glover) who is a lot more than just a grumpy old man to deal with. Things only become stranger when an uninvited mourner arrives with photos in hand and an agenda on his plate. As Aaron and Ryan contemplate how to resolve their father’s dark secrets it does not take long before the controversy plays out in front of all the grieving visitors, including their mother.

“Death at a Funeral” was one of the first comical pieces this year to have me continuously laughing. Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence were a dynamic duo. Adding Tracy Morgan, Luke Wilson, Danny Glover, James Marsden and Zoe Saldana made this an all out comical feast. It was a great look at how when family gets together anything is possible. No tears were allowed at this service, only tears from laughter.
