BRÜNO

BRÜNO ist coming…are you ready? Well if not you better be. Sacha Baron Cohen is back on screen leaving BORAT behind and making his mark as BRÜNO. Created by the British comedian, it is the second personae to become a feature film. BORAT was a film focusing on a visit to his native surroundings, where BRÜNO focuses on European fashion and being blacklisted from fellow fashion divas. After an unfortunate turn on the cat walk during Milan’s Fashion Week, the flamboyant European model/TV host heads to Hollywood with his loyal assistant Lutz (Gustaf Hammarsten). Landing in Los Angeles with stars in his eyes he heads for some anal bleaching and hires an agent to find him a gig.

BRÜNO tries to host his own talk show, and a panel of the public screen a pilot of his new show. The shock and awe factor wears in as the show closes with BRÜNO’s dick flopping up and down and eventually the pee-hole yelling out BRÜNO. Comical yes, shocking hell yeah, but it is priceless being on the inside of the joke as these screeners say they would rather poke their eyes out, eat shit or be burnt alive than to watch BRÜNO again.

BRÜNO at one point angering a mob of people and wanted to stone the scandalously dressed host to death. Even after the peace talks and an agent, fame is not in site. Deciding to follow in the steps of Madonna and Angelina he decides adopting a child will help his fame. However as you can imagine going on The Richard Bey Show to display your son and discuss your gay love life only angers the audience. Without giving too much more away you get the plot; BRÜNO doing numerous wild and crazy acts to catch the average person off guard.

BRÜNO’s focus is homophobia. Finding the most homophobic individuals and pushing the envelope to get a reaction to entertain the audience. Many of these skits are very dangerous, however a select few felt pre-designed. The main difference between BRÜNO and BORAT is that BORAT was laid out better and easier for the audience to follow. But BRÜNO still has much to love; the skits, the comedy and the best social experiment to ever hit the box office. Kudos to the amazing Sacha Baron Cohen who offers one of the best characters since 2006, an actor who can remain in character even with a gun to his head.
