Adventureland

adventurelandSet in 1987 with the best beats and awful attire, this adventure follows Emily (Kristen Stewart) and James (Jesse Eisenberg). The pair meets as they work a summer job at Adventureland Park and find passion more exciting than the games they are running. The film takes you back to those awkward days of being unsure of yourself. Filled with trials and tribulations you see these angst teens just trying to deal with life. James lands a job in the games area when his search for a summer job leads him to dead ends, except for at the theme park. While working at Adventureland you are introduced to a wide variety of humorous characters, including the manager of the park Bobby (Bill Hader), who seems a bit eccentric and his strange significant other, Paulette (Kristen Wiig).

Not only is the park a place to earn a paycheck, but it turns out to be the grounds of affairs and lies. Who knew drama could come from such a fun place? During these hot summer days James begins to be drawn to Emily who seems withdrawn from society. When James feels rejected by Emily he agrees to go on a date with the hot rides girl, Lisa (Margarita Levieva). Caught in a triangle between lust and love what will James do? It’s an adventurous ride that takes many twists and turns. Back to the days of boy likes girl, girl likes different boy and so on so forth.

“Adventureland” is an enjoyable ride, but towards the end you find yourself ready to get off. A lot of the relationships and characters are undeveloped, but that aside they were all entertaining in their own aspect. Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg had great compatibility and handled the teenage angst to perfection. The film flawlessly captured the decade. Not to mention it had some of the best music from its period. “Adventureland” offered great humor, but could have been cut back twenty minutes and would not have been so extended.
