From the opening thrills to the explosive end you will find yourself immersed by everything Star Trek.

It’s been four years since “Star Trek” hit theaters and received rave reviews. It is rare that a sequel can do the exact same. “Star Trek Into Darkness” has done the same if not slightly better. Chris Pine returns as Captain Kirk who is still up to his old tricks with mass amount of charisma. His friendship with Spock (Zachary Quinto) is tested when his honesty about a mission almost cost Kirk the Enterprise.

The disagreement with Spock won’t last long as Kirk will be thrust into a new mission when a terror attack happens from within their organization. Kirk’s emotion will take over as he is determined to bring the terrorist to justice that ambushed his friends and resulted in the death of innocent lives. Spock will talk reason to Kirk managing to thwart his seek for revenge. The crew of the Enterprise will enter uncharted territory to bring the man responsible to justice.

Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch) is introduced as the indestructible super powered man responsible for the mass destruction. Khan’s surrender is quite easy and only leads to further suspicion of what is really going on. Captain Kirk is intrigued by this mysterious man and what he claims is the real reason why Kirk has been ordered to capture him. When Kirk discovers the truth and the reality of his mission he finds himself and crew in the path of devastation.

Captain Kirk’s loyalty to his crew is revealed and he will risk everything to ensure their safety. “Star Trek Into Darkness” is pure brilliance. J.J. Abrams has created another masterpiece. Taking the time to not rush a sequel and making sure to have a solid film to follow it’s predecessor. With non stop action and excitement you will be on the edge of your seat. The cast was amazing again. Quinto is the perfect Spock and his scenes with girlfriend Uhura (Zoe Saldana) were awkwardly extraordinary.

Some of the best scenes come from the friendship between Spock and Kirk. The comical banter between the pair are standout moments. Newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch was a scene stealer. The talent he brought was total bad ass and everything you would expect from this dark character of Khan. From the opening thrills to the explosive end you will find yourself immersed by everything Star Trek. “Star Trek Into Darkness” is going to heat up theaters this Summer being the first solid hit. Go boldly to experience this impressive adventure.

“The Great Gatsby” not so great, but pays a decent tribute to the novel.

Who is this Gatsby? You will find out every dark secret in “The Great Gatsby”. We are brought to Gatsby’s world by his friend Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) who is reminiscing about his friend and the magical time they had together. As he thinks back to the moments seen and heard at his neighbor’s million dollar mansion we discover more about the man who loved to party. Nick recently relocated to New York following the war in the hopes of becoming a successful journalist.

Nick is living the simple life and finds himself intrigued by his neighbor and his lavish parties. Nick travels to the other side of the town to visit his cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan). During his visit he meets Jordan Baker (Elizabeth Debicki) who informs Nick that his neighbor is Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) who throws the most amazing parties. Jordan also explains that he is a mystery; there are several stories about who he is and where his millions have come from.

When Nick returns home his intrigue is peeked further when he finds an invitation from Gatsby himself. At first he thinks it will be an intimate encounter, but it turns out to be an invitation to another lavish party. He attends and is astonished when Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) introduces himself. He is much younger than expected. The two quickly become friends, but as with any friendship Gatsby is using Nick. His ulterior motive is to be reunited with his lost love Daisy, who has since married Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). Not happily married as Tom has a mistress Myrtle Wilson (Isla Fisher).

It’s a story of love lost and the inability to let that love go, no matter how detrimental it can be. The film does the book justice as its adaptation is beautifully told. But this film is far from Great. “The Great Gatsby” is not worth the hype it has been given as this Summers hit. The story is solid, but that credit goes to writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. Many parts in the film felt forced and as if the puzzle pieces were not fitting.

With an amazing cast of talent the performances were good and all had superb chemistry. The standout performance goes to Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby who captured his mysterious obsession and angst perfectly. Some of his best work. It was enjoyable to see the foreshadowing of Gatsby’s life brought to the big screen, especially that green light at the end of the dock across the lake. So many symbolizations that remind you of this classic novel and what you love about it. Gatsby’s parties were amazing and by far some of the best parts of the film. You will find yourself whisked back into the 1920s. The film in 3D was a complete waste. I can’t express enough that these motion pictures need to steer away from 3D. Time after time the effects are unnoticed and especially with this almost three hour long film your eyes or head will be dying for a break. “The Great Gatsby” not so great, but pays a decent tribute to the novel.

About The Great Gatsby:
From the uniquely imaginative mind of writer/producer/director Baz Luhrmann comes the new big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. The filmmaker created his own distinctive visual interpretation of the classic story, bringing the period to life in a way that has never been seen before, in a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. “The Great Gatsby” follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.
