Kauffman Stadium went to the dogs today. What I hope to be an annual event at the Royals was called Bark at the K. It gave dog lovers in the metro an opportunity to bring their dogs to the game today with a portion of ticket prices being donated to the Humane Society. The event was barktastic. Tickets could not be purchased at the game, they were purchased in advance online. I was thrilled when I heard the tickets were sold out!! We checked in, signed a waiver, and quickly sent in the direction of the dog parade.
The first event scheduled was a walk for all dogs around the warning track of the field. It was my first time on the field and on the “Jumbotron” which was wonderful. The dogs seemed to love it and the kids watching were checking out all the different breeds of K9s. After making the rounds it was time to make out way to our seats. Along the way, baby pools were filled with water at many stops to help cool off the dogs.
A small dog park area was set up for dogs “potty” needs with clean up services on site. Our three seats were great, seated in section 108 out in left field, for two humans and one dog seat. Rocki, our St. Bernard, did not need a seat, he just laid down and tried to cool off during the game. Rocki enjoyed all the game traditions of fireworks, cheering, ice cream and hot dogs. On site, for pet lovers, were vendors selling great items and accepting donations for pet toys.
By far this was one of the best events Kansas City has had for my K9 friends. I know I am hoping to attend this event for many years to come, while knowing proceeds going to The Humane Society made it that much more fulfilling. All of the Royals fans loved seeing the dogs, and kids got a kick out of the “Dog Zone”. On top of all the dog fun… the Royals put on a great show with Greinke pitching, a home run in the second inning and of course a WIN. Let’s hope for another Bark at the K!
