Taco Bueno

taco-buenoDuring a recent visit to the Legends in Kansas City, KS I was referred to try Taco Bueno. Similar to Taco Bell, but a little more modern with a salsa bar and Taco Platters. Platters run from $2.99 and up and most meals averaged below $5.00. Obviously not your authentic Mexican food, but I decided to give it a try. As I expected the service was not perfect. The woman who took our order seemed bored, and when we received the food it was not correct. Wanting to avoid a delay or possible food contamination I decided to stick with what I got. The taco meat was very dry and had no flavor. I had requested chicken and received beef instead. Not sure how the chicken is, but I would think it would be better than the hamburger meat. The shells also seemed a little stale. The burrito was smeared with beans and little, if no meat and tasted awful.

950The only highlight for me was the Firecracker Salsa which was very flavorful and spicy. Also I enjoyed the Cheesecake Chimis. These were a great delight after the meal we had, but order them after you have finished dinner as they are ten times better hot. Overall I would not look forward to eating here again. Hopefully this was a fluke and not all locations have similar service and food, after all I have heard quite a few positive things.

If you had tried the chicken, I think your reaction would have been much more pleasant. I tend to not like how traditional Mexican restaurants do beef and always stick with chicken or veggie. They have a great burrito(can’t remember what they call it). It has chicken, black beans, that home-made salsa you spoke of and more. It’s all you need from there.
This place comes in handy late at night, since I don’t really like Panchos.
