Starts today!

The Plaza Art Fair starts today. It is going to be a beautiful weekend to get out and enjoy it. The streets of the Plaza come alive with art and artistic happenings of all kind. Not everyone goes there for the art, many people go to enjoy the lovely outdoors, people watch and the multiple good eats offered. Approximately 300,000 people attend this annual event. This year looks to be no different.

WHEN:

Friday September 23rd 5-10pm

Saturday September 24th 10am-10pm

Sunday September 25th 11am -5pm

Admission is FREE

Food is always top knotch. One of the best reasons to go. Restaurants from around the Plaza take their art of food to the streets with vending booths on every corner of the fair. Look for food on the East and West side of Halls; North side of Ward Parkway between Williams Sonoma and Plaza III; Wornall between Williams Sonoma and Cole Haan.

PARKING is always a disaster. Go early if you want to find a free spot in one of the parking garages. But your best bet will be to park on the street north west of the Plaza and walk.

Tune in to say goodbye today!

I remember the good old days when soap operas were the escape from everyday life. For me they still are. I am proud to admit I am an avid fan of daytime dramas. From the time I was five years old spending time with my grandparents I can remember Erica Kane and Victoria Lord. Today the journey comes to an end. After forty one years of kids growing up over night, characters returning from the dead and multiple weddings and births “All My Children” ends its remarkable run on ABC daytime. It was crushing news when announced earlier this year that the daytime drama had been cut due to lack of ratings. Trying to change daytime viewing was always a danger, but I did not expect a double whammy when both “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” got canned.

But thanks to the protests and the amazing loyal fans it looks like the show might still go on. Prospect Park, a 2 year old media and production company announced this summer they plan to pick up both series online in January from where they left off. There is also speculation that they are in talks with a cable network to get the episodes televised as well. As of today Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery) and Lindsay Hartley (Cara Martin) are the only cast members signing on to make the change to cyberspace. Only time will tell if the remaining cast members will pick up and make the transition. For more details on the daytime drama debuting online in January you can contact Prospect Park to be added to their mailing list for additional updates. Email to: soapsalive@prospectpk.com.

In the meantime take a few moments today to enjoy the end of a legacy. Bid adieu to the show that introduced the talents of Josh Duhamel and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Tune in today at 12pm CST to say goodbye to the Kane women, the Martin’s, the Chandler’s and the Hubbard’s.

Every year I start off cheering on my Kansas City Chiefs. This year was no different until about two hours ago. I am not sportscaster by any means and I don’t know the play books and rules like most avid fans, but I am very disappointed in today’s game. We were lucky enough to be invited to the home opener and had a great time. We arrived at the stadium around 10am and it was already packed with tailgaters. We came in Gate 5 and it was already a mad house.

Apparently they were trying out some new parking for the VIP guests and had cones lined up that caused a massive delay for people trying to park. People waiting in long lines to pay $27 to park! Another outrageous hike in price. The tailgating was a blast. Once we found our seats in the stadium you could really see the improvements and I was very excited as a fan and Kansas Citian to be there. Looking forward to a good game.

The opening ceremonies were wonderful. David Cook singing our national anthem and the planes flying over and commemorating 9/11 was an incredible time to be there not only as a football fan, but as an American. That alone was worth any ticket price…everything after that was grim. 41 to 7…how can you disappoint so terribly in the home opener at the loudest stadium in the NFL. There is no one place to put the blame as the team as a whole lost. Maybe they can improve and make my next visit worth it. The stadium and all of it’s upgrades were amazing to explore and enjoy and now we are ready to take our son to the next game. Chiefs fans are loyal and dedicated and it was enjoyable to see how many families have passed on that tradition through the years. Hoping this is one we can start with our own family. Let’s hope the next game is a win!

DREAMWORKS ANIMATION AND MACY’S LAUNCH KUNG FU PANDA’S PO ON FIRST-EVER NATIONAL BALLOON TOUR BEGINNING APRIL 15th

KUNG FU PANDA 2 OPENS NATIONWIDE ON MAY 26th

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWA) and Macy’s today announced that KUNG FU PANDA’s Po will embark on the first-ever U.S. tour of an official Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® balloon, beginning this Friday, April 15th. Po is scheduled to make a six-city, cross-country tour of awesomeness, culminating in his debut visit to Los Angeles to mark the opening of KUNG FU PANDA 2 this Memorial Day weekend.

Po is scheduled to visit the following cities: Miami, FL on April 16th; St. Louis, MO on April 22nd; Dallas, TX on April 30th; Chicago, IL on May 6th; Phoenix, AZ on May 14th; and Los Angeles, CA on Memorial Day weekend. At 42-feet tall, 46-feet long and 34-feet wide, the Po balloon is truly larger-than-life and is posed in one of Po’s signature martial arts moves from the DreamWorks Animation feature film. Po’s appearance in each city will coincide with a day of family-friendly festivities, all open to the public, which will include an opportunity to take a picture with Po, as well as see an official KUNG FU PANDA martial arts presentation. The day will also feature coloring, airbrush tattoos and face painting stations, as well as special prize giveaways.

Said Anne Globe, head of Worldwide Marketing for DreamWorks Animation, “We are thrilled to join forces once again with our friends at Macy’s, who have done an incredible job of bringing our character of Po to life as a giant balloon for audiences to enjoy at the annual Macy’s parade and now in cities across the country. This first-ever premiere event is an exciting way to help kick off the summer movie season.”

“With his debut at last year’s Macy’s Parade, DreamWorks Animation’s giant Po balloon became an instant spectator favorite,” said Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “This special tour will bring Po closer to fans nationwide and is a great way to launch the highly anticipated sequel, KUNG FU PANDA 2.”

In KUNG FU PANDA 2, Po is now living his dream as The Dragon Warrior, protecting the Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow kung fu masters, The Furious Five. But Po’s new life of awesomeness is threatened by the emergence of a formidable villain, who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy kung fu. Po must look to his past and uncover the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will he be able to unlock the strength he needs to succeed.

KUNG FU PANDA 2 will be distributed by Paramount Pictures nationwide on May 26th and features the voice talents of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Gary Oldman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, James Hong, Michelle Yeoh, Danny McBride, Victor Garber, Dennis Heysbert and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
