‘Giselle’ synopsis

The greatest of all romantic ballets, Peter Wright’s production of Marius Petipa’s classic is a tale of betrayal, supernatural spirits and love that transcends death. Giselle reunites Principal Guest Artist Carlos Acosta as Count Albrecht with Principal Dancer Natalia Osipova in the title role on the iconic Covent Garden stage. On the big screen together for the first time, the pair will dazzle audiences as Acosta is considered one of the most influential male dancers of his time and Osipova is an award-winning ballerina who was a Principal with the Mikhailovsky Ballet and ABT before joining The Royal Ballet in 2003. Boris Gruzin conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra. Giselle transformed the dance world when it was first performed in Paris in 1841 and remains at the center of the classical repertory. The Royal Ballet’s production uses Marius Petipa’s classic version (after the original choreography by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli), first staged in St. Petersburg in 1884.
