Friends with Benefits Movie Review
Chemistry explodes on-screen in “Friends with Benefits”. Starring Mila Kunis as Jamie a so-called headhunter whose good looks and great personality make her perfect for the job of schmoozing clients. Especially when it comes to Dylan, portrayed by Justin Timberlake who decides to uproot from Los Angeles and relocate to New York taking a job at GQ. Jamie introduces Dylan to a bustling city and shows him the greatest things about New York City, does not take much to convince him. Being his only friend in the city Dylan hangs out with Jamie and they become good friends.
After watching a sappy romantic comedy one night Dylan comes up with a proposal. What if they were friends who had the benefit of having sex with each other whenever they wanted with no repercussions? No risk of commitment or hurting the other person’s feelings, strictly a friendship that allowed for pleasure every now and then. That works out great for awhile until Jamie decides she wants a relationship and is letting opportunities pass her by. Taking a stab at the dating game does not come easy and Jamie is alone again and decides to go to Los Angeles with Dylan to meet his family.
Things begin to get complicated after Jamie reads more into her relationship with Dylan then he is willing to give. Both having commitment issues they shut down emotionally and return to New York alone and Dylan realizes how much he misses Jamie. But it may be too late as his words cut deep and forgiveness is not always easily given.
“Friends with Benefits” is a fresh story of falling in love in an unconventional way. A movie based on sex that offers plenty of it. The chemistry between Mila and Justin was enough to set the screen on fire. It added humor that made this better than your average romantic comedy. It lagged a bit towards the end, but redeemed itself with the closing scene. It’s not a movie about love. It’s a movie about finding friendship and turning it into whatever you want. This sexy movie is going to heat up summer.
