Paul Blart: Mall Cop

paul-blart-mall-cop“Paul Blart Mall Cop” is portrayed by the always comical Kevin James. James who is no stranger to the uniform is best known for his starring role as Doug the delivery man in the hit comedy King of Queens. Now his uniform has a different meaning. Paul Blart is known as mall security, a title he is not comfortable with. It seems he may prefer mall officer. Paul is shown to be struggling with not only a weight issue, but also with confidence. Paul failed to complete his training for the police academy and fell short of becoming an officer. Instead Paul becomes a veteran of mall security using his segway to prevent crimes.

Paul’s idiotic love for his job is displayed in many ways. While training a new guard he tries giving an elderly man in a motorized scooter a citation for speeding. When Paul returns home every evening we see he resides with his mother and daughter. This dutiful single father is very dedicated to his work and is determined to make his daughter proud. One evening while Paul is on duty the mall is over taken by a gang of organized criminals who have taken hostages in an attempt to cash in. Paul initially decides to flee the scene, until he sees his crush Amy (Jayma Mays) is still inside the mall. He turns around his segway and re-enters the scene of the crime determined to save his crush and her fellow hostages.

“Paul Blart Mall Cop” came as far as any comedy this preposterous could go. With Kevin James as the overweight funny man you can expect a handful of laughs. Some of them land, and some were a major miss. Unbelievable is the only word I can think of to describe the storyline which takes place in just three days. Even though Kevin James and Jayma Mays do offer chemistry with charming exchange it is not enough to sustain the film. Some of the best scenes come from comparing Paul Blart’s mall battle to Bruce Willis in Die Hard. If you are a Kevin James fan you probably will want to see him rolling around, otherwise you can pass on this one to save a few bucks.
